A place with a past
01Founded 1559 by Maharana Udai Singh II as the new Mewar capital after Chittorgarh fell to Akbar.
02Built around Lake Pichola, backed by the Aravalli hills, and never conquered by the Mughals — Mewar is the world's oldest continuously ruling dynasty (76 generations, 1,400+ years).
03The Sisodia Rajputs of Mewar are legendary for defiance — Maharana Pratap fought Akbar to a stalemate at Haldighati (1576).
04The current head is Shriji Arvind Singh Mewar, 76th in line.
05The City Palace remains their working residence; parts are museum, parts are private.
